For example, 90% of what we know about the human brain has only been discovered in the last ten years. So things are evidentially hotting up!

What I ALSO discovered was the simple - but overwhelming - reasons why positive thinking doesn't work as well as it should. Here's the scoop...

It is your subconscious mind you are trying to influence, because that is the hidden and most awesome part of your brain. Think of it as an iceberg - a silent monster 90% hidden from view.

And, apart from keeping you alive by regulating your breathing, heartbeat and producing hormones and other chemicals that would defy all but the most sophisticated laboratories, it also has the most amazing creativity and problem solving capacity that would beat even the most super of super-computers around today.

And here are the reasons traditional
methods of influencing the subconscious fail

Put simply, you're sabotaging your own efforts. And the greater your ambitions - and the higher your goals - the more likely you are to fail. Here's why...

Now I'm sure, if you've any knowledge of goal setting, you'll know about affirmations. They are phrases which you repeat several times a day - always in the present tense - in the hope they will sink into your subconscious.

Your subconscious will accept any scenario as fact and will then work hard to bring about the very scenario you've described in your affirmation. It's just like you placed your order for your meal with the waiter.

But you have to tell the waiter EXACTLY what you want.

The first mistake is to create your own affirmations. On the face of it, this makes good sense, because only you know precisely what it is you seek.

But the problem is, your subconscious, as powerful as it is, is a gentle giant - childlike in its blind acceptance of instructions. And for that reason, your affirmations must be incredibly PRECISE or they won't achieve the outcome you want. Worse still, they could bring about the effect you DON'T want. 

For example, there was one case of a lady who affirmed "I am free of debt" And a little while later she was, because she was made bankrupt. It is true that, under the bankruptcy rules, she was free of debt. But that wasn't quite the outcome she envisaged!

But, beyond the need for very precise affirmations, there is an even bigger problem.

The only route you can normally use to convey these affirmations to your subconscious - which will accept them as fact - is via your conscious mind, which will very definitely NOT accept them as fact.

So, if you affirm "I am wealthy and live in a mansion on Long Island", the reasoning, logical side of your brain - known as the conscious mind - is very well aware you aren't really wealthy, or living in a ten bedroom mansion, so it resists.

So it's a bit like driving with the brakes hard on. You'll generate a lot of heat (your wheels may even catch fire) but you won't make much progress.

And, because you need to be alert, when you recite your affirmations, that isn't when your subconscious is at its most receptive.

So I knew there had to be a better way

There was and I've found it. And I had to go back in time...

You see, I discovered the vital key had been discovered, ages ago, and then lost for 130 years.

In fact, the theory of this was expounded back in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. But - like Charles Babbage's idea for the first computer - the level of technology at the time wasn't capable of putting the theory into practice.

Fast forward to 1973 and an article in the magazine, Scientific American by Gerald Oster, who took up Dove's theory and tied it in with other research to unleash the power of binaural beats.
